Ultimately, answer: should a person ever degrade himself or herself?

Dear Hamlet,
Try to sit back and think about what you're doing and how it's affecting other people. I know you want to do the right thing, but so far, this whole vengeance thing is not workig to your advantage. Actually, it's destroying you, piece by piece. I bet you haven't had a decent night's sleep since you saw your dad's ghost. Such an experience would leave anyone shocked and bewildered, but I know it's even harder for you because you are really, really loyal to your dad.
As hard as it is for you to think clearly right now, try to take a quick step back and look at how this situation is impacting everyone you know. Your mom is absolutely worried sick. You broke your friend's heart and left her to go insane by herself. It's no good Hamlet. If you expect yourself to do whatever it takes to kill this phony king and still make it out a sane, happy person, then you're wrong. Ask yourself, is it really worth the cost? Are you willing to trash your entire life over a horrible crime? More importantly, what really drives you, your loyalty, or your bitterness? Speaking of which, how will taking vengeance do anything for you or for your dad? Are you willing to ruin other people's lives too? How fair is it that Ophelia has to suffer through everything you're doing to yourself? You can't have your life and your revenge, Hamlet. This choice is literally life or . You choose.

"Why what an ass I am! This is most brave, That I, the son of a dear father murdered, Prompted to my revenge by heaven and hell, Must, like a whore, unpack my heart with words."(117) Hamlet is feeling alot of frustration with his situation. He thinks he should not be so held up. I think self degradion is bad, creating a negitive view of yourself is bad.

"To die,To sleep-No more"

This quote in his first speech shows us how that he is so confused and has no idea what to do. He either kills himself or kill his new father his uncle. He decideds to do nothing which only makes him crazier.

Hamlet seems to get extremely critical about himself when he is alone and speaking a soliquey. Hamlet speaks the following words after he has met with the actors and is alone: "Yet, I/A dull and muddy-mettle rascal, peak/Like John-a-dreams, unpregnant of my cause,/And can say nothing--no, not for a king/Upon whose property and most dear life/A damned defeat was made. Am I a coward?/ Who calls me a villian?(2.2.565-572). Hamlet is criticial about his actions. He refers to himself as a rascal, who seems to be acting like a lazy dreamer who will not act on his actions, but just thinks about them. Also, he wonders if he is a coward. Perhaps this is do to the fact that he is taking his time about killing Claudius and he thinks that his hesitation is a sign of cowardence. Hamlet also contemplates his thoughts as villianous. Hamlet may think that his plans are and thoughts are those of a evil individual and that killing Claudius may prove him a villian. At the moment, Hamlet is experiencing extreme inner tourmoil is constantly in the middle of a inner conflict. I do not think that it is safe for any individual to be so consfused and self-critical as Hamlet currently is. He should go see a therapist or something.
I have been down on myself when I put something off until the last minute and I am scrambling to get it done the day before. It is often after a test that I studied for a hour the night before that I beat myself up because I realize that I just flushed my grade down the toliet. I beat myslef and say that I will never do it again....but I always do anyway.

"To be or not to be" this quote here shows that hamlet is debating whether or not to continue life. I dont think that anyone should even think of killing themselfs i mean how bad can life be, i mean ya his mom made a stupid choice but he cant get down on himself for that he just needs to take it in his own hands and take action with his uncle.

"to be or not to be" Hamlet is questioning his life at this time and is really frustrated and angry with everything that is going on around him. For a person to actually thing about committing suicide is really bad, and if you think your life is not worth living you have to be absolutly crazy. thats the only way you can committe suicide, if your absolutly insanly crazy

The most famous line from the play is "To be or not to be that is the question"(123). i think that hamlet is going crazy with this thought because this is a question wether or not to kill himself. i dont think a person should degrade themselfs to this low of a level because its not worth it.

I profoundly believe that the most self degrading comment in this play comes when Hamlet is talking to Ophelia and is starting to become suspicious of her father. He starts to yell at Ophelia, and deny all their forms of love and his own letters, this passage shows his self loathing, Ophelia represented all that was good in Hamlet and his slaughter of her name and soul are metaphors of his own demise, and loss of love not only for Ophelia but for himself.

Hamlet views himself in a gegrading way:" A dream itself is but a shadow" (Shakesphere 97). Hamlet views his dreams of a shadow as to what he should do. What Hamlet dreams, many times Hamlet does. He also degrades himself by calling his dreams shadows when many people think of there dreams positively and something hopeful to life up to. Hamlet doesn't view himself highly.

In act 2 Hamlet states, “I could be bounded in a nut shell” In my opinion, this means that he believes that his punishment is for him to be locked up in a very small jail cell. He compares the nut shell, because a nut is tightly packed in a nut shell. He believes that for thinking these thoughts, he should serve a miserable life in a miserable jail cell. This is an example of how Hamlet is very down on himself.

"Why what an ass I am! This is most brave, that I, the son of a dear father murdered, prompted to my revenge by heaven and hell, must, like a whore, unpack my heart with words." (117)

Self-degredation never leads to good. Realizing one's faults and accepting that you have flaws is a different story. Instead of self-degrading yourself, spend that time trying to fix what needs to be fixed. Harping on depression has never been the right answer. Although it was wrong for Hamlet's mother to remarry so quickly, she has the right idea... Finding a new hope eases the pain fo the old one.

P141:L125
O God your only jig maker. What should a man do but be merry? For look how cheerfully my mother looks, and my father died within's two hours. This quote shows how Hamlet has still not been able to grieve with his mothers apparent disregard to how Hamlet feels about Cladius.

"Why what an ass I am! This is most brave, That I, the son of a dear father murdered, Prompted to my revenge by heaven and hell, Must, like a whore, unpack my heart with words."(117) From what I understand Hamlet is wondering if the apparition he sees is really his father's spirit or the devil. He is wondering if his father would really want something like the apparition claims (for Hamlet to commit murder). Hamelt clearly thinks to himself that he would at least feel some sort of guilt or remorse after killing Claudius. I think Hamlet is disgusted more than anything that he is even in the situation.
